And My #WCW Goes To…

Henry Hartman is said to be the mastermind behind the quote “success always comes when preparation meets opportunity.” I completely agree with this, and I feel that preparation is a task bestowed upon each and every individual–one that encompasses the mind, the body, and (quite possibly the hardest and most important part) the spirit. However, opportunity is the tricky part of this equation. If preparation plus opportunity equals success but the situation is devoid of opportunity, what happens?

This is something I think about as a college student and someone with a Type A personality. What if that opportunity never presents itself?

To soothe these worries, I have become something of a Wikipedia-ite. Or is the correct term Wikipedier? Wikiwarrior? I think I prefer the last one. 😉

Although academia frowns upon Wikipedia, I can’t say that it hasn’t provided useful information in the past. From figuring out how baseball is played while at my first Braves game (three months ago) to–just last night–looking up the historical events in Billy Joel’s We Didn’t Start the Fire, it really comes in handy. Is it bad that the historical events search turned into a two hour evolution? Haha.

But most importantly, I have used Wikipedia to research my role models–my inspirations. I like to keep tabs on where they were at my age and how they got to the next level…AKA when, where, and how opportunity presented itself.

My current inspiration, and my #wcw for the past year, is Eva Chen–also known as the editor-in-chief of Lucky and my favorite followee on Instagram. With an Instagram follower count of 220,484 plus her affinity for Grumpy Cat and arsenal of Birkenstocks, Chen is rising as a fashion icon. With an Instagram feed like this, who could predict otherwise? You can follow her here.

For the shoes sported by Chen, try these Birkenstocks and a pair of Sam Edelman Yara Chunky Heel Sandals from Shopbop.

Oh, and don’t miss out on this month’s issue of Lucky which features Solange Knowles–on newsstands now!
